2021-2022 UM Debate Team Members

Sam Franz is from Traverse City, Michigan. He is a freshman who studies political theory. He regularly applies the sort of theoretical work that he finds interesting class to his debating style, prizing an acute yet technical style of debate.

Jonah Jacobs is from Northbrook, Illinois and attended Glenbrook North High School. He’s a freshman majoring in Economics. Outside of debate, Jonah likes to read, lift weights, and spend time with friends.

Tomas Korn is from Miami, Florida. He is a junior studying business with concentrations in finance and accounting. He mainly competes in public forum and civic debate and is passionate about international markets and electoral systems.

Clare McGraw is a first-year student at Michigan. She went to Juan Diego Catholic High School in Draper, Utah. Clare is planning on majoring in International Studies and Political Science.

Ashton Smith grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois and attended Maine East High School. He’s a second-year student that plans on majoring in Public Policy. This is Ashton’s sixth year participating in the activity of policy debate, including high school.

Thomas Vance hails from College Park, Georgia. He is a freshman in the LSA Honors college. Thomas intends to study Political Science and African-American Studies. He is heavily involved in the Black Student Union and is passionate about social justice issues on Michigan’s campus.
Caitlin Walrath is from Salt Lake City, Utah. She is a junior and psychology major. Caitlin works for Notre Dame High School in California and at the Michigan Summer debate camp.

Matt Zhu is a sophomore from Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Hawken School and his major is undeclared.
